Quarried in the Garada Region of Bundi District of Rajasthan, it is a sedimentary rock composed of sand grains cemented by natural minerals and in colours such as beige, brown, grey, and orange. During the colonial era, people used colonial sandstone for building foundations, walls, chimneys, and fireplaces. It is still popular and often used for renovating historic homes and buildings.
